Having had a baby 3 months before I was feeling very low in confidence and looking for some form of exercise that I could fit into my busy life. Walking past the outside of Curves I was drawn in by the 30 minute fitness and woman only environment promised. I had been a member of gyms before but as soon as I walked into Curves I felt relaxed by the fact that it was all women working out together, there was clear direction of how my time would be used and the fact that we were all working towards our own targets. I set out my own targets and began my three work outs a week. I started to look forward to the exercise that I did at Curves and it became easy to fit the three half hour work outs into my week.
It took time for my efforts to be visible but I started to feel fitter in my self. September however meant a return to work and Curves took a back seat to my new even more hectic life. I knew that I should be going but never seemed to be able to find the time. Just when I was wondering how I would ever show my face again I got a call from Louise at Curves. She reminded me of the goals I had set and that of course I would be welcome back. I went back the next evening and from them have not looked back. I had my first weigh and measure and found that I had begun to lose a little weight by not eating as much as when I had been on maternity leave!
Since this point Curves has not been something I need to try and fit into my schedule - it fits in neatly and easily three times a week and month on month I see the effects of the work I put in. The first month I lost 6 pounds and earned the position of member of the month. This was a real motivator to ensuring that I didn't get complacent about my targets again. Over 3 months I lost 1 and a half stone, the compliments from friends and family started and I was motivated to try harder. I spoke to Louise about the Curves Weight Management programme and have now begun to incorporate this into my routine. I can really feel the difference on a week to week basis now and can't wait for my next weigh and measure and hopefully my biggest loss to date!
When I carry my daughter now (she weighs 2 stone) I cannot believe that I use to be permanently walking round with that much extra weight and more - and I'm so pleased that losing the weight has not been an eternal struggle but part of my week that occurs in a supportive environment!

Too good to be true! - Well that’s I what I thought when I first heard about Curves- “Just 3 times a week for 30 minutes and you can achieve your goals”. I decided to give it a go, having tried various gyms and exercise classes over the years (not to mention diets) to my amazement it didn’t take long before I began to notice the benefits.
Unlike exercise classes where you have to attend at specific times or miss out- Curves is so fantastic because you can go at a time to suit yourself. Progress is checked on a monthly basis by staff who are motivated and friendly - Always willing to encourage and get that little bit more out of everyone.
I am now nearing my ideal goal, and with increased self confidence the feeling of trying on clothes and needing a size Smaller is PRICELESS!

My weight problems began about 6 years ago with 3 events over a period of a couple of years. The first was giving up smoking, I was very proud of myself for this because I was a ‘real’ smoker - I was well and truly addicted to the evil weed, but this came at a price – weight gain – but I had expected it and thought it would right itself given time.
The second event was the menopause, my symptoms were fairly classic, hot flushes, mood swings (my poor family!!) and more weight gain. At this point I decided that I should really start to do something about it but just as I was about to take back control of my life the third event happened - a family crisis knocked me for six and losing weight became the last thing on my mind. In fact I gained even more weight – I suspect I was comfort eating. I had hit rock bottom both mentally and physically.
I eventually went to see my doctor and told him I had to do something about my weight and asked for advice. He weighed me and told me that I was not yet obese but that I was only a couple pounds away from it – that came as a real stock I can tell you!!! His advice was simple and blunt EAT LESS AND EXERCISE MORE!
I’ve never really liked going to a gym so I was really interested to see an advertisement in the local paper for a new exercise club in Timperley called ‘Curves’. It appealed to me right away for several reasons – it was for women only (I had lost all my confidence and could not have faced anywhere where there were men!!!) and the excerise region was specifically tailored for women, it was only 30 minutes 3 times a week, which was all the time I could afford, and I liked the sound of their ethics i.e. a caring and supportive approach to their members.
I joined and have never looked back. With the help and support of the Curves team my fitness level improved and I was encouraged to lose weight in a sensible and controlled way. Soon the weight started to come off and the more I lost the better I felt. I am now a normal weight for my height and build and I feel as if I have been given a new lease of life – THANK YOU CURVES!!!

I did not notice the weight going on until the clothes got tighter and tighter. I had avoided mirrors at all costs and then went shopping and was struggling with a size 16. I had to leave the shop so upset and refusing to buy a size 18. I have tried diets before but had not exercised in 10 years and now need to do something fast.
Driving through Timperley Village I had seen the sign Curves 30 minutes fitness and weight loss for women, after driving past it a few more times I finally plucked up the courage to call. I was embarrassed as I felt unfit and thought everyone would be so fit.
Everyone was welcoming and friendly. The ladies were all ages’ shapes and sizes, not at all like other gyms. Staff was friendly and at my first meeting set me some goals and ensured me that they would monitor my progress monthly. I wanted and had to give Curves a go.
In my first month I lost 61/2 pounds and have never looked back. I exercise three times per week and have been losing weight steadily ever since. I set myself the goal of 3 times a week which Curves recommended and that is really all it takes. I am so motivated and have gone from a tight 16 to size 12. My friends, family colleagues and curves members have all noticed – I feel great.
When I think back to how I hated the fat on my back – I no longer worry as now I follow a healthy food plan and together with the Curves staff I will maintain my new healthy weight and keep the back fat away for ever.
Curves works and gives you a monthly progression check to ensure you reach your goals and stay on track which I needed to get me where I am today.
I have even got through a Holiday and Christmas and still lost weight, as I know the importance of healthy eating to boost my metabolism. I am now more aware of food labels and how they can come across healthy but on a closer look are high in fat e.g. salads and sandwiches. This has helped me a lot.
Curves Smart gives me feedback after each workout I can track my workout progress and see calories burned.
I am nearly retired and know that Curves will help me keep active and enjoy my retirement.
I now cannot wait to go on my next shopping trip for my Daughter’s wedding and get an outfit 2 dress sizes smaller!
